Our experiences with The Halsey Community Choir
I joined the group a few weeks after it had started in September last year. I kept reading the adverts and thinking I must do this. The poster behind the bar said 'join us and have a good time'. We are just going to sing together and have fun.
I was very nervous the evening I walked into the Halsey Arms. Others soon started arriving and some were already friends, others would very soon become friends. I have joined a group of extraordinary people. We are led by Holly Royle who is always full of energy and inspiration.
During each session there are familiar songs to improve and the anticipation of learning a new song, getting the notes right, fitting in the words and the timing. For some of us there is the added challenge of not being able to read music, for others it can be equally challenging reading the music and knowing how the song should really sound. We all have fun and laughter in the process.
After a few weeks of singing carols Holly dropped the first hint that we would be singing in public. There would be a carol concert to follow the one held at Pulham church. I was privileged to take part in both events and the overwhelming feeling of community coming together to celebrate was fantastic.
We have gone on to sing in ‘Pulham’s got Talent’ raising money, also at Buckland Newton Church for the School Leaver’s service, at Pulham Fete and a CD of songs for our dear friend Sue Douglas .
Future appearances include singing at Holwell Village fete on 1st September and Honeybuns Apple Day on October.
A big Thank you to Roger for allowing us to use the big room at the Halsey Arms Pulham every Wednesday evening.
If you love singing and have an hour to spare on Wednesday evenings between 7pm and 8:30pm please join us to sing and enjoy the fun, laughter and sometimes even tears with this fabulous group of people .
